Football and Romance???

Touchdown Kisses!!!

When we started this journey a friend asked if we were planning any romance into our trips.  After all, this is supposed to be about our 30th wedding anniversary…  I asked if “Touchdown Kisses” count. 😉

Planned  vs spontaneous?  A girl’s perspective…

We arrived in Boca Raton on Thursday afternoon, checked into our hotel then headed out for a late lunch & groceries.  And unplanned entertainment…  We found ourselves at the Grand Lux Cafe in Town Center Mall.  (Burgers & onion rings were good, fries tasted frozen, service was great.  The desserts looked wonderful but we were too full.  Their decor fit the name, reminded me of some of the more ornate places in Las Vegas.)

The entertainment was easy to spot!  (Some of the guys on FAU’s message board ‘Owl’s Nest’ said this mall was the Trophy Wife/Cougar hangout.  The signs at the doors were a clue…)

20140925_172643After lunch we walked around the mall, admiring window displays well beyond our budget (a Tesla store? in a mall? anyone looking for a Bentley or Rolls?) & laughing with each other when we spotted one of the many overdressed (underdressed if you’re referring to undergarments), over siliconed, over-tucked, over-the-top ladies.  And Men!  The advantage in this sort of entertainment?  Hubby gets to see how easy he has it.  😉  The romance?  Sharing some laughs, some dreams & hubby thanking me for not being ‘high maintenance’!!!

There are also times when romance is both planned & spontaneous.  Spending the morning driving around an unfamiliar town looking for a house I lived in & school I attended more than 40 years ago…  David trying to not be too uncomfortable when I asked him to take my picture in front of that house… The surprise bonus of a romantic stroll & happening upon a scenic drive along the way…  Lunch at the Shake Shack (great fries) was followed by a self-tour of the campus & visit to the FAU bookstore [see David’s post about “Georgette” the effigy].  Top the day off with treating me to a nice dinner at a seafood restaurant when he can’t stand the smell of fish.  (Fish City Market.  Nice place!  My dinner was great, the most tender scallops I’ve ever had!  David’s steak, ‘well’ instead of ‘medium-well’.  Oops…  Down side?  Noisy!  Music from the bar was far too loud.)  Pictures by the lake, dessert & a movie back in the room.  Really nice day!!!  That’s romantic!

Of course, this weekend wasn’t just about us.  Lynn Hickey kindly included us in a luncheon on game-day – the Alumni Assoc. invited us to their events as well.  We had a very nice time meeting new people and getting to know our Athletic Director just a little bit better.  (Tried some pretty good Cuban food as well.)  David & I felt bad having to leave the luncheon early but some of you were expecting us to get a good tailgate spot.

And we did!  Tailgating was fun (Duh), we were the only UTSA group in that lot & had many Roadrunners (& a few Owls) drop by for a visit & some “Birds Up” cookies.  There was even a guy who lives close enough to walk over.  He was thrilled to find ‘his school’ represented.  The FAU fans were nice enough, everyone was friendly.  No where near the caliber of the OSU fans when it came to hospitality but no complaints either…

The highlight of the pre-game entertainment was when the police and fire department were called in because of a bee swarm!  They took over a neighbor’s tent – gave us an excuse to pack up a little early & head for the stadium.  Never seen anything like it!!

Finally, on to the game!  No, I won’t go into details of the afternoon, just suffice it to say that we love our ‘Runners and they played a good game.  The stadium wasn’t very crowded and UTSA fans were pretty spread out at first.  We called the strays into the main group and then GOT LOUD!  David & I were told that we were even heard all the way up in the suite.  LOL

The after party was just the opposite, quiet.  A light dinner, a little ‘game talk’, then we were headed back to our hotel to pack.  A couple hours of sleep & off to the airport by 4:00 AM.  We had planned to be home by 11:00 but… we were flying SWA.  We got home at 1:30.  Grrrr….

(Note to Jennifer & Marc.  Circumstances aside, we enjoyed sharing breakfast during that unexpected layover and getting to know you a little better.  Your company made the wait much easier.  And probably shorter.  Thank you!)

Back to the romance…

“Touchdown Kisses” are anticipated 😉  That’s romantic…  Having to reach around a Player-Mom to get one of those kisses is giggle inducing – and, yes, still romantic.  (Not to mention hilarious when that Mom got a little embarrassed… LOL  !!Luv ya Bonnie!!)  Enjoying time together & with friends.  Sharing laughs, cheers & tears.  Holding hands; we’re still doing that – after almost 37 years together.  It’s all romance.  Life is romance – sometimes it’s easy, sometimes you may have to work at it.  But it all adds up to being together; building memories, sharing, caring, loving…  our families, friends & each other.

A big thank you to all of our Roadrunner friends for sharing this adventure/celebration with us and making it great!

Go ‘Runners!!!
